Convert Bank of America Statements to Excel

Bank of America statements split money movement into two columns — Withdrawals and Deposits — with a running Balance beside them. That split is where most converters stumble: an amount in the wrong column flips the sign of the whole row. This tool reads the two columns separately and signs each amount by its column, then reconciles the balances before you download.

How a Bank of America-style statement is laid out

Our test files model the common Bank of America-style layout: five columns — Date, Description, Withdrawals, Deposits and Balance. Amounts in both money columns are printed positive; the column itself carries the sign, so a withdrawal is negative because it sits in the Withdrawals column.

The statement prints a Beginning Balance and an Ending Balance for the period. The converter rebuilds the running balance from the beginning balance and reconciles the computed ending balance against the printed one, to the cent.

Digital PDFs are read from the text layer; printed-and-scanned copies go through on-device OCR, so check the red-highlighted cells in the preview.

Tested on 5 synthetic Bank of America-style statements (2 digital, 3 scanned; 52 transactions): every cell extracted correctly and all 5 reconciled exactly. These are synthetic test files modeled on the common structure, not copies of real Bank of America statements — real files vary, so always check the preview and the reconciliation line.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload

Drop your PDF into the converter — digital tables directly, scanned pages via on-device OCR.

  2. 2

    Preview

Check the extracted table first. Low-confidence cells are highlighted red, and balances are reconciled up front.

  3. 3

    Download

Confirm, then get a clean .xlsx (Transactions + Summary sheets) or .csv — amounts are numbers, dates are real dates.

Frequently asked questions

Why do two-column statements need special handling?

Because the amounts are printed positive in both columns. A converter that ignores which column an amount came from will flip withdrawals into deposits. This tool signs each amount by its column, then proves it with the reconciliation check.

How do I get my Bank of America statement as a PDF?

Download it from Bank of America online banking or the mobile app as a PDF statement, then upload it here. The converter reads the table structure, not a bank-specific template.

Does it work on scanned statements?

Yes. Image-only PDFs are read with on-device OCR. Scanned pages are usually less accurate than digital ones — the preview highlights low-confidence cells in red.

What does the Excel file look like?

A Transactions sheet with Date, Description, Amount and Balance columns — withdrawals as negative amounts, deposits as positive — plus a Summary sheet with the balances and the reconciliation difference.

Do you store my statement?

No. Files are deleted automatically within 1 hour, the upload folder is excluded from all backups, and nobody reviews your files.
