PDF Probe vs DocuClipper: one-time pages vs a monthly subscription
Both tools turn PDF bank statements into spreadsheets. The real difference is the billing model and how far the output goes: PDF Probe sells one-time page packs for occasional use; DocuClipper is a monthly subscription built for accounting firms, with direct QuickBooks and Xero export.

- Both reconcile extracted totals against the statement's printed balances and flag mismatches.

DocuClipper's own comparison pages also quote $29/month (60 pages), $79/month (300 pages) and $159/month (640 pages); the live pricing page currently shows different Business/Enterprise page counts, so the table uses the pricing page figures.
When PDF Probe is the better fit
- You convert statements a few times a year. A $9 pack of 100 pages covers many years of occasional use, while a $29/month subscription costs $348 a year even in months you convert nothing.
- Your workflow ends in Excel. The output is a clean .xlsx with a Transactions sheet and a Summary sheet; amounts are numbers and dates are real dates.
- You want the reconciliation visible before you pay: the preview shows the row count and the balance difference before any page is spent on a download.
When DocuClipper is the better fit
- Statements are weekly work, not a one-off. A subscription with a monthly page quota and a dedicated processing queue fits a firm better than buying packs.
- Your books live in QuickBooks or Xero. Direct push and QBO/IIF/QFX output remove the manual import step PDF Probe cannot do.
- You convert more than bank statements — invoices, receipts, checks and tax forms are in the same subscription, with an API for automation and unlimited seats for the team.
What PDF Probe cannot do (tested)
- Generic tables: only statement-style headers (Date, Description, Amount, Balance) are recognised; other tables come back empty.
- Debit / Credit columns: statements that split money into separate Debit and Credit columns return 0 rows.
- ISO dates: dates written as 2026-09-01 are not read; US-style dates (9/1/2026) are.
- No accounting export: no QBO/QFX, no QuickBooks or Xero push, no API.
Frequently asked questions
Is PDF Probe cheaper than DocuClipper?
It depends on how often you convert. PDF Probe sells one-time page packs: $9 for 100 pages, $29 for 500, $79 for 2,000. DocuClipper is a monthly subscription starting at $29/month for 60 pages (or $20.30/month billed annually), and unused monthly pages do not carry over. If you convert a few statements a year, one-time packs cost less in total; if you convert every week, a subscription with accounting integrations may fit better.
Does PDF Probe export to QuickBooks or Xero?
No. PDF Probe exports .xlsx and .csv only. DocuClipper exports Excel, CSV, QBO, IIF, OFX, QFX and QIF, and pushes directly to QuickBooks Online and Xero. If your workflow ends in an accounting system, that is the practical difference.
Do both tools check the statement balances?
Yes. PDF Probe shows a reconciliation in the preview (beginning balance, computed ending, statement ending, difference). DocuClipper also reconciles extracted totals against the statement's printed opening and closing balances and flags mismatches before export.
Can I try either tool for free?
PDF Probe converts the first 10 pages free, no account needed. DocuClipper offers a 14-day free trial with up to 120 pages and no credit card required.
